Dimiter Tchernookov

Violon

French-Bulgarian violinist Dimiter Tchernookov was described as a “violinist who can really give music a voice” and “a soloist-type with blazing technique to spare” for his New York Recital Debut at Carnegie’s Weill Recital Hall with the Grand Air Tio in 2008.

After graduating with high honors from the Conservatoire National Superieur de Paris in ’05 (Prof. Olivier Charlier), he went on to pursue his musical studies in New York at the Mannes College of Music (Prof. Lucie Robert). He obtained a Master of Music Degree (’05) and a Professional Studies Diploma (’09), as well as a special prize for Excellence in Performance (Georges & Elizabeth Gregory Award). During his five years in New York, he performed in all major venues (Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Yamaha Hall, Museum of the City of New York, NYC & Morgan Libraries, Yale & Colony Clubs, Consulates of France/Poland/Bulgaria), as a soloist or with numerous ensembles (Bachanalia Festival Orchestra, Metro Chamber Orchestra, New York Chamber Virtuosi).

A top prize winner at the California International Young Artists Competition, the Five Towns Music & Art Foundation Young Musician Competition and a winner of the Mannes College of Music Concerto Competition, he regularly appears in recitals with pianist Justyna Maj and with the Grand Air Trio (which he co-founded in 2006) throughout Europe and the USA, and has been a guest artist in numerous international festivals (Fontainebleau American Conservatory, Casalmaggiore International Festival, Festival de la Roque d’Antheron).

In parallel to these activities, Mr Tchernookov enjoys a vibrant orchestral career: since relocating to Amsterdam in 2011, he occupies the position of 2nd/2nd concertmaster in the Netherlands Radio Chamber Philharmonic, and also regularly performs with London’s Philharmonia Orchestra. His participation in masterclasses worldwide has given him the opportunity to work with and receive the advices of masters such as Gerard Poulet, Donald Weilerstein, Ani Kavafian, Sylvia Rosenberg, Yifra Neaman, Takashi Shimitsu, David Chan, and the Orion Quartet.
