Marika Hofmeyr

Born in Cape Town, South Africa, Marika Hofmeyr received her earliest tuition with her mother, Nancy.   From the age of nine and throughout her university career, she was a pupil of Lamar Crowson.  After having received the B. Mus. Degree (Performance) with distinction from the University of Cape Town, she won a scholarship to further her studies overseas.

She continued at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, where she specialized in Chamber Music with Erika Frieser and Lied accompaniment with Paul Schilhawsky.  In 1986, she received the Kammermusikdiplom with distinction from the Mozarteum and was awarded the prize for “outstanding artistic achievement” by the Bundesministrer fur Wissenschaft und Forschung in Vienna.

On her return to South Africa, she performed with several South African and international artists and made numerous radio recordings, sharing her performing career with teaching.

Marika settled in the South of France in 1990 and is currently teaching at the Grasse Conservatory.

She performed in various Festivals in France and gives recitals in Europe, USA, Japan both as a soloist and chamber musician.

She was nominated Laureate de la Fondation Menuhin in 1992 and was awarded the first prize of the 1996 A.F.A Chamber Music Competition in the New York with the Trio Cavatine.

She creates the “Bela Trio” in 1999 with soloists of the “PACA Orchestra” and remains a passionate Lied accompanist ever since.
