Pascal Marsault

Organist, Great Organ of St Ignace, Paris

Born in Blois, France, Pascal Marsault is titular organist at Eglise Saint-Ignace in Paris.  He obtained the highest distinctions at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris, after studying the organ with René Brethomé and Marie-Claire Alain, and then with Michel Bouvard and Olivier Latry.  His interest for different types of ancient music led him to carry out part of his academic studies at the Sweelinck Conservatorium in Amsterdam.

With an MA in musicology from Tours University and several prizes at the Great international organ contests (Suisse, Paris, Chartres), Pascal Marsault taught for a year in Japan, where he was the first French organist in residence at the Sapporo Concert Hall.  During this residency, he gave many concerts as a soloist, and also with musical ensembles in the main concert halls throughout Japan, including Tokyo, Kyoto, Yokohama, Nagoya, Akita, Morioka, Miyazaki, and Hamamatsu.

He regularly gives organ recitals both in France and abroad, sings with the Chœur grégorien de Paris (Prague, Milan, Bogota, Nagoya, Alexandria, Cairo, Jerusalem…), interprets instrumental duets, and accompanies singers Françoise Masset and Jean-Christophe Clair, with whom he founded the Triptyca ensemble, which specializes in the repertoire of French sacred music of the 19th and 20th centuries.

Since 2004, he is guest professor at the Bogota Summer Academy, where he coordinates the formation of young organists in conjunction with the Luis Angel Arango concert hall and the National University of Colombia.

His musical activities have been enriched by enthusiastic teaching, successively at the Conservatoires of Tours and Toulouse, and subsequently in 2001 at the Centre de Musique Sacrée in Sainte-Anne d’Auray, in Brittany, West of France, for a three-year period.

Having obtained the Diplôme d’Etat in ancient instruments and the Certificat d’Aptitude à l’enseignement, he was invited in September 2004 to found the organ class at the Conservatoire National de Région de Toulon-Provence-Méditerranée in the South of France, where he has been teaching since then.
